Storage that Respects the Future.
Blue Gate operates with a measurable sustainability commitment — spanning emissions reduction, spill prevention, vapour recovery, pump electrification, solar PV readiness, and water recycling across our Rotterdam terminal.
ESG Framework
Three Pillars. One Standard.
Emissions, Spills, and the Terminal Footprint
Blue Gate targets measurable scope 1 and 2 reductions across all throughput operations. Vapour recovery units reduce VOC emissions at tank vent points. Secondary containment and bund integrity monitoring prevent hydrocarbon release to soil or waterway. Biodiversity surveys of the terminal boundary are conducted annually.

Workforce Safety and Community Commitment
Safe operations begin with people. Every Blue Gate employee completes role-specific competency assurance and participates in a weekly toolbox talk programme. Through partnerships with Rotterdam Port vocational networks, Blue Gate funds apprenticeships and skills training that feeds the wider port community.

Board Oversight and Transparent Reporting
ESG accountability sits at board level. Progress against targets is reviewed quarterly and reported annually in alignment with GRI and TCFD frameworks. Blue Gate maintains a public incident register and publishes near-miss statistics to reinforce a culture where transparency is non-negotiable.

Commitments
Targets We Report Against.
Baseline year 2026. Progress reviewed quarterly and published in the annual ESG report. Scope 1 and Scope 2 baselines subject to client confirmation before publication.
| Metric | 2026 Baseline | 2030 Target | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 (tCO₂e) | — (TODO) | −30% vs baseline | In progress |
| Scope 2 (tCO₂e) | — (TODO) | 100% renewable electricity | In progress |
| Vapour recovery efficiency | 92% | ≥98% | Upgrade underway |
| Water recycled (%) | 40% | 75% | Phase 1 complete |
| Spills (per million m³ throughput) | 0 | 0 | Maintained |
Scope 1 and Scope 2 baselines marked TODO pending client confirmation. All other figures are operational actuals.
Community
Rooted in Rotterdam.
Blue Gate has operated from the Port of Rotterdam for over sixty years. That longevity carries a responsibility — to the port community, to the city, and to the people who choose careers in bulk liquid logistics.
Through the port's vocational training networks and direct partnerships with Rotterdam's maritime educational institutions, Blue Gate funds competency development for the next generation of terminal operators, gaugers, and logistics professionals. We track apprenticeship outcomes and publish intake numbers in our annual ESG report.
Community is not a CSR box to tick. For a facility of our scale — operating within a living, working port — good-neighbour practice is part of the social licence that lets us operate at all.
Programme Highlights
- Annual apprenticeship intake in partnership with Rotterdam port vocational networks
- Port skills training programme for gauging, sampling, and terminal safety operations
- STEM outreach partnerships with secondary schools in the Rotterdam–Dordrecht corridor
- Supplier development: preference for regional contractors and SME service providers
- Bursary scheme for terminal technician qualifications and operator certifications
Reporting Frameworks
Disclosed Against Global Standards.
Blue Gate aligns its ESG reporting with internationally recognised frameworks. Actual subscription status is subject to confirmation with the client before publication.
Blue Gate aligns its ESG disclosures with GRI Standards, reporting material topics including energy consumption, water use, occupational health, and community engagement.
Climate risk is assessed across governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics — consistent with TCFD recommendations. Physical and transition risks relevant to ARA terminal operations are disclosed annually.
Scope 1, 2, and material Scope 3 emissions data are disclosed through the CDP platform, supporting investor and client transparency on carbon performance.
Our environmental management system is structured around ISO 14001, providing a certified framework for identifying, managing, and continuously improving environmental impacts at the Rotterdam terminal.
